This is a brilliant play and an example of the power of telly to debate, challenge and question basic existential issues with a ferocity and an almost frightening intensity. It proves as lazy those who deride the haunted fish tank as epitomizing how culture is being dumbed down via Big Brother/ X Factor culture. No one is holding a gun to your head when you pick up the remote as far as I know.

Writer Frank Cottrell Boyce is well known in comedy circles for penning the much lauded 24 Hour Party and the equally derided Cock and Bull story, but told the Guardian that having read Elie Weisel’s Night (a document of life in the Concentration Camp system) he had wanted to make this film “for the last twenty years or more”.
